about

You ever felt like smoking a little somethin' somethin', but you need some music to vibe to while you get high? Well, do I have the tape for you!!! Featuring enough music to fill up two sides of a whole ass cassette, the Smoketape brings dope ass beats and bars to keep you in a good mood during the ENTIRE smoke session! All the songs are about smoking, but there's LAYERS to this...we are smoking with Karens, hopping in a time machine to smoke in the 80's, confessing to my mom that I smoke, smoking while society burns down around us, as well as whatever the hell else unfolded, all the while NEVER revealing what is actually being smoked! (don't want the HR department at work to hear!)

I had an idea pop in my head back in summer 2021: "an album full of reggae-ish and old school rap-ish music about smoking/getting high (except I can't reveal what i'm smoking) that sounds like it came off a cassette tape found in a bargain bin or something." This past summer, I was at the beach zooted off my ass cooking spaghetti and listening to the Mungo's HiFi Spotify station while I cooked, and I decided I NEEDED to finally make a reggae themed album.

I made this thing over the course of August - October 2022. I used mostly hardware gear and some actual musical instruments to make the beats. I'm on here playing keyboards and turning knobs by hand, shaking and hitting percussion, and ALL drum tracks were either bounced out of drum machines or played manually on a sample pad or electronic drumset.

On a personal note, I lost my wife to cancer earlier this year (love you babe!), and the subject matter of this album is what has helped me enormously. I haven't been able to create music, until all of a sudden the floodgates opened and this album spilled out. I had so much fun making it, and it has been a light during an otherwise dark time. I hope it brings you as much laughter as it did me when I was making it. Enjoy, and smoke responsibly while you bump the Smoketape!
